It had been a long time since visiting the Chart House. They switched their concept in Ft Myers some time ago to Joes Crabshack. :( We went with friends celebrating her 8 year anniversary with our company. They did a solid job, like many restaurants in the past few years they have curbed their approach a bit to attract the masses. Service not quite as sharp and attention to detail not emphasized such as refills, prebus, and fresh spices available when meal arrives. I only mention these things because of the price point which dictates excellence in service. Pre meal salad bar was very good, we noticed a lady needing help there too and staff seemed oblivious. All foods fresh and tasty. The meals themselves were enjoyed by all. Salmon, tuna, filet, and short ribs. Enjoyed an excellent bottle of Stag Cabernet. Plenty of selection. Overall great experience, especially company we were with. Get rid of Joes, revamp and open back as Chart House, you would do much better cause Joes is awlful.

I know the reputation of the Chart House and was looking forward to a special night out. The Atmosphere was beautiful! We sat outside on the patio and the weather was perfect. Our service was very slow and not attentive like a fine dining restaurant should be. After we ordered our appetizers our waiter brought out a stack of plates and rolled up napkin/ silverware and placed them next to me and walked away. I proceeded to hand them out to my guests- a little tacky. The food was average - with a few stand outs. The Clam Chowder soup was amazing and the molten lava cake was also a stand out. I ordered the spinach salad with the hot bacon dressing and it was bland. My shrimp cocktail had a beautiful presentation with smoking dry ice but the shrimp was dry and freezer burned. The Fillet was good and New York strip also good but have had better cuts for that price. Our plates sat in front of us without being cleared and my husband was using a table knife to cut his steak because our waiter brought only one steak knife for our daughter but forgot him. Unimpressed. Love the setting- Would come back for a drink and an shared starter but would not come back or recommend for dinner. The service was too poor to match the reputation and the prices.

Disappointed with this upscale and expensive restaurant. The waterfront setting is beautiful but the interior is a little dated. We had dinner on a Saturday night with another couple and none of us were impressed. Salad bar was just ok. I had baked stuffed shrimp that was not good at all. My husband had the Mahi and said good but not worth the price. Our friends had filet and snapper that was again just ok. Green beans were over cooked and drenched in butter and mashed potatoes very dry. The lava cake was the best part of the dinner. I don't mind paying high prices for a dinner but I should walk out saying "that was really worth it". Unfortunately The Chart House did not accomplish that. With all the amazing restaurants in the Sarasota area, we won't be returning to The Chart House.

We were staying at the Long Boat Key Resort down the street and my concierge made us the reservations. We arrived to our reserved VIP table, which we just loved and made us feel so special. Drinks, appetizers, dinner, and dessert were all amazing! We had the shrimp appetizer and I had the King Salmon with the shrimp avocado corn salsa topper and it was delicious! Afterwards, we all shared the lava cake for dessert - another fabulous pick! We went towards the end of August (low season) and we had a table with a wonderful view and the restaurant was not very crowded, which was nice.

This place has a great view, fantastic classy atmosphere, and superb service. There is not a thing to dislike about the food or personnel. As expected the prices are a bit high, but it is totally worth it.

Incomplete review from 2010: Bulletpoints jotted down were: Javier - friendly View - gorgeous Sunset - nice Filet Mignon - Apparently, filet mignon didn't warrant a comment and I don't remember this meal. However, I do remember both the view and the sunset.

Came here for mothers day on Sunday with my family and my cousin's family. Surprised they didn't have mothers day brunch special as some locations do. But we went anyway. The service and food was good overall with large portions. The fried calamari said it had siriacha sauce but was not spicy at all, more sweet. The crab, avocado tower was excellent as well as the tuna tar tar. I had the fish special with crab it was so good but couldn't finish it and took the rest home. The prime rib was excellent too as well as the molten cake which you should pre order when you order your entree so that it's ready when you are done with your entree. The restaurant has nice views and would recommend to come here. Be ready to be stuffed!

If your into salads this is the place, I do love a good one and there Ceasar salad was pretty good. The salad bar had caviar (some cheaper stuff I imagine) I don't know much about it but I liked it. I ordered the Scallops Italia it came with 4 scallops and a small side of ratatouille.... thank god I got a salad (wich was 9$ extra to add onto a 30$ base price) but the thing is its just ok and nothing more my girlfriend got some steak pasta, the steak was burned (she asked for medium) the pasta was worse than olive garden the sauce had no flavor. This place is needlessly expensive with less talent than a chain restraunt.

Overall a very pleasent dining experience. Ate on a Thursday night and the restaurant was about 1/2 full and the bar was busy. The Ahi Tuna was cooked to a perfect temp and the Wasbi Mash was quite flavorful. The Mixed Grill was also good but the portions on mine could have been a little larger but still a nice meal. The Lava Cake was delicious and more than enough for 3 people. 4 stars because of the lack of any local craft brew. Just Stella and Landshark on tap.

This used to be our go to restaurant when we wanted a great night out. Not anymore. We went on our anniversary and I couldn't have been more disappointed. My steak was hard to cut. Whole table wobbled when I tried to cut into it. Still couldn't cut because of the grissle that ran through the meat. Clearly they are buying second class meat. My pasta was dry and not even cooked thouroly with some watery sauce on bottom of dish. Our party was already finished with their meal before I received a replacement meal. Did they comp my dinner for the inconvenience..... NO!! Needless to say it was very disappointing for our anniversary night out. I was warned about how the place has gone downhill but I had always enjoyed the Chart House so we went anyways. Never again.

The Chart House should be reliably good - but on a recent re-visit the food was awful and the service incredibly slow. All sorts of excuses were made to everyone around us about being too busy, having a large group come through, understaffed - but you are restaurant, so go figure. All our food was overlooked. Fried calamari was frazzled, chewy and served on a mound of puffed up rice. The shrimp fettuccine pasta was cooked so long it just all stuck together and was sitting on a deep pool what looked like some kind butter sauce with the shrimps stuck in at the edge of the bowl. How can you mess up pasta ? Our regret was that we didn't send it all back !

Went here for our anniversary dinner. Had a nice table near the window overlooking the water. I ordered a filet which came with mashed potatoes. The filet had absolutely no salt or seasonings and the potatoes were mildly warm. The rolls were steaming hot when brought to the table but when they cooled they were extremely dry. My husband ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and the salad bar. $8 for the salad bar with an entree??? Really? His prime rib was just okay and potatoes were also barely warm. For desert he ordered the cherry apple crisp which was probably the best thing we ordered. We have dined at numerous Chart Houses and this was by far our worst meal and very overpriced for the quality of the food.

Holy horrendous holiday meal and experience. Where to begin... 8:15 reservation but seated at 8:40. Hostesses were young and in no way could possibly handle the responsibilities of seating almost 1,000 covers on Christmas. Our Server did not introduce himself and asked if we wanted an appetizer while handing us the menu. Our meal was promised three separate times over a 40 minute span after waiting 45 minutes already. The nameless manager did offer soup and an appetizer to make up for no dinner but did send us home with a dessert and comped the meal which wasn't worth the $25 i tipped the server who came over in the last half hour of our dinner for he stepped up and showed at least a sense of responsibility. He was the only positive thing from a truly poor dining experience. The Chart House is a poor excuse for a restaurant. My grouper was a whopping 3 oz and over cooked. My sons prime rib was fired under the broiler and about 1/4 inch thick. Both filet mignons served were " outback steak quality.".

I also read the reviews and found that I and my partner had an AMAZING night! Sorry others had a bad time, but the service was great, YES, the drinks are a bit over priced (2 Kettle One Martini's = $25!) but hey, suck it up and enjoy!! The service in the bar area while we waited for our table was stellar!! Our server Erin was the BEST!! Alert, attentive, personable, and a GREAT server! She knew how to work the tables! Look for her whenever you go!! The food was AWESOME! My partner had the Pan Seared Scallops with wasabi mashed potatoes and let's just say...TO DIE FOR!! Perfectly sautéed and served with class. I had the YellowFIn Ahi and let me say this...if you love fish, you will LOVE this dish! PERFECTLY cooked and I savored every bite like it was a religious experience!! Paired with IRONY Cabernet Sauvignon...ummm...WOW! SO...if you want to spend some $$ and have a great time doing it, with great food and service...go to the Chart House!! People who say it's "Offensive" and "average at best" must be out of their heads!! And YES, that's MY/OUR opinion! ENJOY!!

We have eaten frequently at the Chart House over the past 10 years. The view of the inlet off the Gulf is gorgeous, especially at sunset. The Early Dining Menu is a great value, as it also includes a very nice salad bar (not available, tonight, Jan. 1). My dish, Miso Glazed Salmon wrapped in prosciutto was delicious, with a great sauce! The portion was quite small, however. My wife's Stuffed Shrimp also had a great sauce, but she did not care for the stuffing (too fishy for her taste). However, unlike most times in the past (and what we observed around us from other servers), the service from Erin was poor: very inattentive, never offered any drink specials, never came back to refill my wife's coke, didn't check on us or our food, not what you would expect from a restaurant with Chart House prices. We basically never saw our waitress until we specifically asked for her to come over to bring more sauce, the bill, etc. When we return to give Chart House another try, we will ask for a different server. Maybe this was an aberration?

I love the Chart house in Annapolis, MD - where I grew up. But this one falls short! The restaurant has an awesome view of the inlet. The salad bar is awesome!!! Best around. The waiters are awkward, and everything is over priced. Not a good value here.

We have come here several times. Actually emailed management on how horrible it was. We assumed it was manager on duty that was so bad but upon trying it a couple more times we realize it must be the GM. I mean if you don't have the staff to open the entire restaurant then don't. It's not fair to open a section, put ONE server in it and proceed to fill it with 50 customers!!! It's not fair to the customer AND the server. Bless her heart she was working her butt off but there was no winning the situation. The manager(a woman server that was hurt so filling in) even admitted it was a bad situation but it's what the GM insists on. I truly believe that if this wasn't on resort property it would NEVER survive. The GM actually delivered our second round of appetizers and even though we asked him to take the other plates he walked away empty handed. And sent a busser 10 min later. Really?!? The GM is above touching plates?!? Avoid this place and don't bother trying to use the loyalty card they just claim it's not in the system so you don't get your discounts.

Wow. Not the chart house that I remember. The service was atrocious, about the worst that I've had in the last few years. The food was only average nothing to brag about. We were there for my father's 94th birthday - seemingly a special event. We ended three hours later thinking that we were in the twilight zone. The waitress had a great personality, but She had no idea of how to wait at a nicer restaurant. . Not once during any course did she come back to check on us. I actually thought that she might have been kidnapped. By the end of the meal, we were simply exhausted. Please Chart House, LET US GO HOME!

Best dining deal on Longboat Key? The Happy Hour bar menu at Chart House. I think it's only available before 6:30 and only in the bar area. If you're not sitting at the bar itself you'll be sitting on really low curved armchairs that will make you feel like you're on a cruise ship. Just roll with it. It's totally worth it for the short rib sliders, spicy firecracker shrimp and other little tasty dishes mostly priced between $3 and $6 each. Regarding the comment about wine pours, it looked like my mom's wine glass was pretty well full and I think it only cost about $4. She's a wine connoisseur and she seemed pretty happy with it. Three of us ate here before a concert a few nights ago and I'm pretty sure the total bill was less than the price of a single entree at many of the other nice restaurants in the area. Service was friendly and speedy. Good times.

We have eaten here several times and have always been satisfied with our experience. Wait staff is very friendly even if at times we were slightly underdressed coming from the beach. The food and atmosphere are very good. And the salad bar is one of my family's favorites. There's a very nice well-stocked bar. Outdoor seating is also available, but in the summertime the air conditioning is preferred. Molten lava cake for dessert a must.

Ok, so you walk in and you get the feeling you are on the lido deck of the princess Caribbean cruise liner. The staff seemed slightly unprofessional but courteous. We were promptly sat and our waiter, who shall remain nameless ( only because he never bothered with coming forth with that information) was seemingly bothered by the fact that we declined a cocktail. I was surprised when he used terms like uh, "it's no rush to order early bird or something like that". I was truly impressed by his ability to reach all the way across the table right in front of me. Very impressive skill for a fine dining waiter to use over and over again. Did I mention how seductive he looked with his 5 o'clock shadow. So we ordered apps, the Kim chee calamari, slightly fishy, fried perfectly, not chewy but lacking a good seasoning or ample amount of sauce. The 9 dollar salad bar add on is a good feature but both times I have eaten here the salad bar looked like the Tasmanian devil went thru it and nobody bothered at even attempting to clean it up. My wilted spinach had a lot of nice toppings to choose from, caviar is a nice touch and. Some of the little side salads were quite tasty. Next, out come the steak, prime rib, macadamia nut crusted Mahi and crab cakes. All looked good, not great. I had the Mahi so that is all I can comment on taste wise. Purple yams, delicious, peanut sauce, second to none, mango salsa boring, fish was fresh but way under seasoned. Not bad but not worth 35 bucks, 28 Mabye would have been fair. Double espresso came out and was finished way before my key lime pie. Key lime pie was the best I have had in a long time. Desserts, well done. I know I'm ultra critical and I would hope somebody is this critical of my restaurant because we need to be pushed in southwest Florida to be more focused on hospitality. It is major part of our economy and complacency is easy to have when people seasonally come here automatically. All in all our experience was slightly above average. The service staff could take a refresher and the kitchen did pretty good considering it looked like 1 guy pretty much by himself. 240 bucks for 4 people, no drinks.

Not sure where many of the reviewers had dinner. Food was great. Service was among the best I've ever had anywhere. Reasonable prices given location and quality. Special thanks to server Kristin.

This was a great place to have a few drinks and some food with my family. We enjoyed the service that was provided. Staff was friendly, VERY knowledgeable of the menu and accommodating of any requests we needed. My parents got the grouper dish and the medallions--they said it was OK nothing special. However, the Shrimp Chimchurri was really good. It is a lighter dish but with a lot of flavor. If you are looking to save a little money, they have happy hour from 4:00-6:00 PM. Drinks and Appetizers range from $5-$8.

Fucking shitty. If you've never enjoyed at restaurant with a salad bar, this probably won't be the first. Obscenely over priced for bland and insipid food. The service is not what you'd expect at a nice place - the servers are liable to dump a plate of crumbs out on your table, or unapologetically create a new chardonnay / sauv blanc blend right at the table by being careless about which bottles they are pouring into which glasses.

Beautiful views, delicious food and drinks. We liked the coconut shrimp and stacked crabmeat/mango/avocado. The meat dishes weren't that good. I'll definitely be back to try other seafood dishes.

I've been coming to this ChartHouse, not to mention other ChartHouses around the country, for years. By years I mean over 20 years. This was my most disappointing dining experience. My experience started at the bar with a cocktail server named Terry. Everyday from 4:30-6:30 they have a Happy Hour with $4-6 appetizers and drinks $6 or less, which they only offer at the bar. Looking over the Happy Hour menu, nothing really caught my attention. Every year I come here I order the Coconut Crusty Shrimp which is my absolute favorite. That was set in my mind as to what I was going to order. The cocktail I ordered was the Fleur D'Lis, a tropical tasting cocktail composed of Malibu Coconut Rum, Midori Melon Liqueur, Dekuyper Peachtree Schnapps with a splash of orange and pineapple juice. Normally a $9 cocktail, during Happy Hour it's only $5. Not too bad, and I might say. It was actually pretty tasty! Usually I don't order drinks that I think would be sweet, but after asking Terry what she thought, I was persuaded by her that I would like it. She was right. Everything started to go downhill when I began asking questions about the menu and Terry had no idea what to say, looking around to find fellow servers for answers, saying, "I think it's this" or "I think it's that, but let me go find out for sure." What really surprised me is once when she turned to the manager for an answer he didn't even know how many shrimp were on an appetizer. I don't care where you work, but if this is your job/profession, have knowledge about where you work, whether it's knowing the number of shrimp/scallops in a dish, being able to tell someone that a certain dish is spicy, or how many ounces a fish/filet portion might be. Please know what you are talking about. First, we ordered the Prime Rib Sliders, Firecracker Shrimp, and the Bruschetta. Ten minutes later I ordered an appetizer not on the Happy Hour Menu (Coconut Crusty Shrimp). FYI the Coconut Crusty Shrimp appetizer has 5 Shrimp versus the Entree, which has 8. About 5 minutes later the Coconut Crusty Shrimp arrived, but the other 3 appetizers we ordered were still MIA. The Coconut Crusty Shrimp tasted the same as I had remembered and were served with a delicious plum sauce, not too sweet, and not too bitter. We finished the Coconut Shrimp Appetizer and 5 minutes later, the other 3 MIA appetizers finally arrived. The Bruschetta was decent, but for 4 puny cracker-size pieces of bread with a few tomatoes on top for $4, I will pass and make my own next time. The Firecracker Shrimp were decent, but compared to something that was copied obviously from Bonefish Grill, I would rather go to Bonefish and have the real deal. Now for the sickest of sick ... the Prime Rib Sliders. The meat tasted funky and the buns were not toasted, and I would much rather have enjoyed munching on a Krystal, or in Florida it would be a Whitecastle or a What-a-burger. One of the main things I look forward to about the ChartHouse is their Famous Salad Bar. They've always been known to have everything you could want and more on their salad bar. I don't know if this was a bad day for them, but there was quite a bit missing from the last time I had this salad bar. A few basics that were missing from their normal: Cucumber, Ham, Pickled Okra, Multiple Pasta Salads, Croutons (hidden and only available if you asked), Feta Cheese, etc. I could go on telling you what they didn't have that they normally do, but I am stopping before I get myself too worked up. After eating the majority of my salad bar plate, I noticed more than few nasty brown greens and brown pineapple chunks (see photo). I personally would never serve something or put something out that I wouldn't want to see or eat myself. Clean it up, ChartHouse. After finishing my Salad Bar plate, we waited and waited for Terry to return. Fifteen minutes later, still no sign of Terry (we thought she got lost in the kitchen or had a bad case of you know what). Our waters were empty ... servers, managers, and hostesses passed us by without acknowledgement. Finally we were able to flag the manager down to get our check. He brought it over without offering any refills and neglecting to help bus the table. It's a pet peeve of mine when dirty, finished plates sit in front of me long after being finished. I want to say "Poof be gone." After paying the manager, Terry finally reappeared, taking plates away finally and saying, "Thank you," without a smile. I was so disappointed that I will unfortunately not be going back to the Longboat Key ChartHouse. There are many other restaurants/competitors on Longboat Key that are much better than the ChartHouse. I advise you choose somewhere other than the ChartHouse. Cheers and Enjoy!

Great meal, great atmosphere. Service leaves little to be desired...when we Walked in and stated we had reservations, we were barely given a hello before hearing the staff talk amongst themselves of all their table issues. Our waitress was very nice but we waited a half hour after our dessert before getting our check and ended up being let for our theater show. I have no complaints about the food or drinks- the swordfish was excellent and my after dinner aspen drink was excellent

When I made a reservation I mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary. I never could have imagined the welcome we received. Patty the manager said they were expecting us and escorted us to a beautiful window view of the water. Our waiter, Manny, was fantastic. The snapper I had was delicious and my wife says the prime rib was excellent. We were surprised to see that the menus we had were personalized for our anniversary and we also were treated to a complimentary dessert. The molten lava cake was amazing. The Chart House staff made this a truly memorable occasion.

Dreadful experience. The food has deteriorated badly since the last time we were here. Very mediocre, overpriced and very poor service. This was quite disappointing since we have enjoyed our meals there over the years. We won't be going back as there are far better, more reasonably priced restaurants in the area.

Nice atmosphere and decor. Fair to good service. Had to send back the crab mango avocado appetizer as the mango part was so crunchy and unripe as to render the dish unpleasant. Huge portions. Had Dover sole stuffed with crab and the sole had sat too long under the warming light or something. Overall, not worth the money.

My expectations weren't high, and Chart House still fell short. The service started fine, but server disappeared after taking our order. No one checked on us after the food was delivered. Our drinks ran out.... the manager walked by 2x and didn't notice or care about our empty glasses..... wait staff chatting by the kitchen entrance......it was a sorry tale. The food was ok. The ahi nachos were good, the calamari "and friends" had a small amount of squid, and 1/4 of the plate was fried banana peppers. Hmmmm. Salad bar was fair, the ingredients did not seem fresh. Food...... Fair Service...... Poor Cleanliness.... Dirty, dusty windows and window sills--- seriously nasty and unacceptable. View.... Nice, but there are nice views all over this island. You're far better off grabbing something to eat at Publix, and hitting the beach! Or hit P.George's, Euphemia H.,or L.Lobster.

We walked in and were pretty impressed by the nice ambience and beautiful views. We had five in our party and were seated in a large, circle banquette. The drinks looked appetizing and we were eager to enjoy a night out. That was the good part. Then the waitress set in. She was pushing us and pushing us to order fast. She screwed up one of the drink orders but set it down so fast and ran that we couldn't stop her. Then another waitress claimed we were her table. ... but seemed reluctant to fix the mistaken drink. Then the first waitress came back to demand our order. Finally, on the way to the salad bar I stopped by the hostess station to ask that they please slow our waitress down. She followed me back from the salad bar wanting to know what we wanted for dessert. I didn't even have a chance to eat my salad! But that's OK... seen better and fresher salad bars. The olives were chopped from a can. The dressings - weak. The other "fixins" were pulverized by a buffalo chopper down to mince - just don't go witht he whole salad thing. It was nice that they offered a salad mix, spinach, and ceasar. The entrees arrived. If the Mahi was fresh, you couldn't tell because it was so overcooked. On another person's dish the pasta looked like it had set under the warming light for 10 minutes. Flavors were OK. Mud pie was included in the prix fixe and it was fine. Overall, I was really disappointed. We were seated at 7:20 and when we left at 9:00 the place was mostly empty. Why the rush? I read the other reviews here and have to wonder, "Was I at the same restaurant?"

Love love love. Service was excellent and so was the food. I highly recomend this place. I had the dynamite sea bass absolutely wonderful. Had Murphy Goode Chardonay which was also excellent. Then topped it off with the lava fudge cake. Love love love. Ask for the server Phil. He was great!!

One of the few remaining pieces of this proud chain. The salad bar is as good as I ever remember and their seafood and steak selections are some of the best prepared. I suggest going early for lunch and having the Salad Bar.

I have been here twice over the past year. I find the service is very attentive. The view is beautiful especially at night. I enjoy the salad bar. The Chocolate Molten Lava cake is a must. I will have to say that the food is over-priced for the amount and lack of originality. For good seafood I would go to Barnacle Bill's, Captain Brian's, or Owen's Fish Camp. What they lack in views, they make up for in food.

Embarrassed. Had friend visiting, I've lived here 8 years. Bragged about balsamic salad dressing and it was right on. Then things really fell apart. Black grouper was small, dry and fishy. Snapper Hemingway was extremely salty King crab wasn't cracked or scored. Shell was like rubber. I asked for scissors so I could get to the meat. My hands hurt. All in all not the great place I remember. It will be a long time until I go back and even longer until I bring a visiting friend. Luckily Sarasota has so many other higher quality restaurants

Well shame on you Chart House.....what's going on in your fine establishment... started in the bar ordered a dirty martini waitress returns in five min to ask if I would like lemon with that ...????? She doesn't know what a dirty Martini is?? Ok we move to a table .....order some wine waiter doesn't know how to serve wine??? to his defense tables are not great for serving anything... No Prime Rib 8:00 at night ...no spinach.....whaaat!!!!!!! Mgr not at all apologetic just stated over & over the fact that they had a rush on Prime earlier it was only 8:00.....and how hard is it to have enough spinach to get thru the eve.... the fillet came apart like the ones that some restaurant's glue together to make it appear to be fillet.....very dry everything seemed like it sat under the heat lamp for tooo long .......terrible timing on the part of the waiter.... no organizing of how the food came out had to ask for the condiments etc not a great evening ..........food wise... very disappointing ..........will be looking for a new course to chart... Chart that!!!!!

Where to begin. The atmosphere is nice. The service is good and friendly considering how busy it is. The food... Have you ever been to a wedding and the food was so bad that had to stop at McDonalds on the way home? This restaurant has such an overinflated sense of what it is, it makes me sick. The food was atrocious. Every dish looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp drying out for at least a week. The flavors were blah and even the wine wasn't enough to make it worth it. Skip this place and find any of the other better restaurants in the area.

After my less than favorable review of this restaurant, I heard from Chart House "corporate" via email. They "promised" that someone from the corporate office was going to contact me. Nobody from corporate ever contacted me. Instead I heard from the "General Manager" Peter Van Buren of Chart House in Longboat Key. Mr. Van Buren was not apologetic and actually more confrontational when he challenged me on the size of the happy hour Stella Artois they serve as to how many ounces it comtains. In addition, Mr. Van Buren felt that perhaps the restaurant was having a "bad day" when I visited. A "bad day ??" I told Mr. Van Buren that NO CUSTOMER EVER WANTS TO HEAR THAT. We come in to a restaurant in good faith and pay that restaurant to serve us food of quality and value. A "bad day ??" Mr. Van Burn did not even extend an invitation to return. His attitude was more akin to, "Well, we had a bad day, too bad." This man needs a crash course on how to deal with the paying public and needs to realize that there are some things you simply do not say to customers. I stick to my earlier opinion of this place. Avoid it. Lots of much better options close by where they don't have "bad days."

Always a good meal, concierge booked for us and that got us VIP seating and a free lava cake, yep.

This was fourth time at this restaurant. The food has always been very good. The salad bar is never disappointing. This time however, the service was just not very good at all. The person was totally disconnected to their job of providing service. Failure to refill drink glass until told, did not remove used plates when we finished our salads. Then repeated this action by not taking away our dinner plates long after we were finished. The only time they we right on time was when it was time for the bill. Other than our poor service, the rest of our experience was as good as any of our other three times. We will still go back, however, we would not allow the same person to have a negative effect on our night out.

I read a lot of the reviews and while we are not yet fans we will go back. (Yelp Rating categories leave something to be desired. 1. make a reseravation and tell them what you want/need. Quiet, handicapped accessible, etc. 2. don't go hungry, it makes you cranky. Have a drink - great lemon drop martinit or a glass of wine. 3. the room is beautfitul as is the view. Dress nice and enjoy it. don't be disheveled (like right from the beach) - they will have to seat you out of sight. 4. Staff could make more eye contact and acknowledge you at the front desk sooner than they did, but it was not really that long - a few minutes organizing where to seat us.. After reading the reviews I thought that , oh no, maybe they were correct. Manager did stop by and ask how everything was both at our table and as we left. Once we were seated the service was efficient, attentive and well timed. (maybe the salad eater who had the server "touch their plate" had a lot more piled on their plate from the salad bar than they could eat before the main course arrived. ) We did see a few of those types - determined to get their money's worth. How do you think the plates get to your table?! someone has to touch them! Dinner was a leasurely 2 full hours. Is it cheap? no. Consider the expensive real estate that it is sitting on. If you want cheap go to a drive thru and get a fish sandwich!. Houses on the water cost more than those inland - expect the same thing. Great view of the pass and worth the trip out to Lonboat Key. Marina Jack is not cheap either and it has been hit or miss over the years in my experience. The restrooms were clean - always one of my tests. If they don't keep the bathrooms clean imagine what the kitchen might be like! The lobster bisque was delicious and had real good sized lumps of lobster in it. our main courses; 2 fish and one mixed grill were very fresh and all were well prepared. Good but not spectacular. Side dishes complemented each main course. Angela was honest about their cappucino (not the place for it) and we did order the lava cake for desert which was superb. The 3 of us shared it which was perfect with coffee. The food was well prepared and just had just the right sized portions unless you like taking home doggie bags. Sometimes we do and at other times we do not.

What a delightful surprise. Having had a very poor meal with extremely poor service at Chart House some years ago, I have avoided it until someone insisted on eating there this evening. The food was great and the service was absolutely impeccable - thank you, Gregory. We will definitely add Chart House back onto our list of regular restaurants.

NOT IMPRESSED...circa 1970's atmosphere. Portions small, nothing to rave about; not worth the price. I believe you'll find a much better place in Sarasota...keep looking!

Visited the place last summer. Nice view, good food, good service. On pricy side, but at least you will not be disappointed with food. Had Pan seared halibut - pretty decent. Liked their cream brule and lava cake. Nice for a romantic dinner or a date, or for a group if your finances can allow a big bill. Overall, worth a try.

I love the Chart House restaurants, especially Alexandria, Virginia. So we tried the Longboat Key restaurant . Beautiful place, Mark, our waiter was very good, but we were very disappointed in the food. I saw a huge shrimp cocktail pass my table so I ordered the coconut shrimp, thinking it would be about the same size. Wrong. On my plate was rice and very small butterflied shrimp! I would have expected this plate at a diner or less expensive restaurant , not here. It just wasn't the quality I expected for the price. Entrees range in the $30+ range. My husband says we paid for the beautiful view, atmosphere, and company. I want all that and good food! Maybe I'm asking too much.

We had a reservation for 6 and had to wait 30 minutes for a table. There are many old folks and that's great, but they need to be able to properly herd them out of the establishment . Also both of my white wine glasses had schmutz in them. Uggg still waiting. I worry that this review will be in vain because the clientele does not use yelp nor the Internet in general. Ugggggg still waiting. The manager just came by and offeredhis condolences. But we are still waiting!!!!!!!!!!! Also WTF yelp can't publish this review from my iPhone. WTF!?!

The last two times we've tried this restaurant the service staff was in total disarray. We waited 20 minutes at the bar to get a drink! And all we got was a weak "sorry about that" from the server. It has great atmosphere, average food and no service.

I almost didn't go here because of the poor reviews, but I'm glad I went anyway. The food was very delicious, the decor was nice, the wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and the view was beautiful. The party I was with really enjoyed their experience very much too. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Beware of the bar service here! I watched the only 2 bartenders and 2 floor servers trying to educate themselves on the Directv remote for 15 minutes. Could not get a second drink. Another client asked to watch the U.S. Open Men's Final and was told it was on another set at the other end of the bar. Customers are definitely an interruption in their day. The appetizers were very good and very reasonably priced - but not worth the lack of service at the bar.

Went here expecting a lot and was let down on every front. The restaurant badly needs a makeover, it's very '80's and is borderline offensive. The food was average at best. I ordered a steak and it was delivered cold. When I told the server, she took my plate and went to the kitchen. She brought it back and it had obviously been re heated. I expected a new steak for the price I paid. Service was average. The server didn't even know what kind of wines they had or what kind the wines were, Cannot recommend.

The restaurant has good ambience...the food is good but overall you are paying more for the atmosphere and the service, both of which are very good. We ended up eating in the bar which we enjoyed. I just had the salad bar which is nice, not overwhelmingly great. I chose the bleu cheese which I don't usually get but I felt like having it....it was disappointing in that there was almost no bleu cheese flavor and it was bland. They really need to change that! The caesar salad was very good with lots of good flavors. My husband had the parmesan snapper. Very tasty but it comes with really nothing else. Overall, I would go back here more often since we live so close but for a limited meal with two drinks, it ended up being pretty expensive.. I wish they had some options for half portions or smaller plates. This ends up being a "special" place for a more fancy dinner vs somewhere where you come a few times a month for a nice meal. Maybe they could t;hunk of doing a bar menu that is toned down a bit.

Came here for a rehearsal dinner. Drinks and appetizers were held on the outdoor terrace, overlooking the water-it was beautiful. Although not very unique or creative, the appetizers were well made and tasted good. For dinner, we moved into a private area in the restaurant. The decorations and atmosphere were modern, but comfortable. We had a pre-selected menu with several options. I chose the snapper with crab. Although it was flavorful, I envied my bf's mixed grill plate. The desserts(key lime & mud pie) were delicous too!

When I want to feel cheated with a 4oz wine pour and a half-full martini glass I make it a Chart House night. What the drinks lack in volume they make up for in price. Service was more honest than it was swift. The waiter agreed that the drinks were under-poured and over-expensive but said it was policy. "If I got drinks like that I'd complain too," he said. Presumably he drinks elsewhere. The Prime Rib was mediocre - perhaps I should have stuck with fish as that seems to be their thing. The salad bar was nice, but not worth $14.99 if you want it as an entree. Won't be back any time soon.

Wonderful, upscale dining on the water. The salad bar is to die for - hearts of palm - caviar - Caesar salad, etc. Service was very good.

This has to be the most over-rated and over priced restaurant I've been to in years. Friends took me here for my birthday. What a mistake. Long wait for a table even though the place seemed rather empty to me. Finally got a table and then waited and waited for server. Should have left then. Then the food came, at least I think it was food. Some people write in infinite detail re each item ordered. I won't - I'll summarize instead. Steak? I've had better steaks at Longhorn, and at half the price. Seafood? I've had better luck at Roys, Drydock, just to name a few. Even the $9.50 catfish special at Cracker Barrel is better than what is served here. Salad bar? Go to Sweet Tomato.. on Rt 41. Want service? Good luck.

Have had a large party at the Chart House for the last 4 years. This year I was very disappointed. I have never heard more apologies from a waitstaff. Sorry I forgot your drink, sorry I forgot your bread, sorry I brought you curdled milk, sorry your desert was in edible. It went on and on. The salad bar was a salad bar,the alcohol tasted watered down, the cook burned the appetizer, the main course was served on top of the apps, the fish was cold and the ice cream pie overly frozen. Some of the dishes were good (especially off the holiday menu) but it couldn't overcome a poorly designed menu. The location is great but the Chart House has lost much of the things that have made it special in the past.

It was good for me but for the price I would expect great. We had coconut shrimp as appetizer and those were good, the gazpacho was pretty good too. I ordered the macadamia encrusted mahi and it was ok. The fish, I've had better, it was a little overcook and the sauce was way to sweet for me. My husband had the NY strip and that was really good, also the sautéed mushroom and the asparagus were really good and I don't like either. Their featured dessert, the lava cake..blah, nothing special. We had the peanut butter cup one and it makes it way too sweet. The pomegranate mojito was delicious!! And the view was fantastic!

The early bird menu is VERY affordable, I get the chicken marsala. The salad bar is so fresh and delicious... and free during the early bird hours. The view is gorgeous!

This is a high end restaurant with amazing views of the water. Service has always been amazing. I live in Sarasota. I eat at every high end restaurant in the area. If you want a beautiful view, good food and a great casual experience - DINE HERE. Ignore caustic revues about half full wine glasses - PLEASE - open your eyes and get a life.

I made reservations two weeks in advance since we planned to be vacationing in Longboat Key for Christmas. When we arrived, the hostess told us reservations were running 35 minutes behind. The hostile crowd surrounding the desk told another story. One woman told me they were already waiting an hour an a half. Perfect picture of iept management. We left and had a lovely dinner at Venezia's.

If your looking for a place overlooking the water, you found it! As a local of 6 years in Sarasota I've come to Chart House maybe 5 times. There is a reason locals don't come here! I believe they survive off tourists seeking a view. The food is par and the service is under par. Was seated without reservations next to the window - a plus! The waiter was hard to understand & in a hurry. He was sloppy, didn't pay attention to our table, didn't remove dirty dishes or replace silverware and didn't pour the wine or water. He placed his hand on my salad plate as I was eating it and said are you done & in other hand had my dinner which came out way too fast. I let him take my salad only because his hand was already on the plate but I wasn't done. This was rude & assuming. Never came back to give cracked pepper for the salad. Had the Sea Bass w/ crab meat and ginger rice. When I saw the presentation of the plate I was very disappointed. Couldn't believe the chef (if there is one) allowed it to go out that way. It was sloppy and plane, no garnish, no lemon wedge (it's fish, always have a lemon), The fish was okay, nothing worth writing about. Both of us at the table were highly disappointed. I make it a point not to complain in front of the guest I am with as it is very rude. We felt rushed out of the restaurant. The previous time I was there the waiters all around us were cleaning tables, clanking silverware and we asked that they please refrain until after we were dining. They wouldn't. For the price you are paying it's not for the food, it's for the view. Recommend staying away and having a picnic on the beach!

I was disappointed by my experience at the Chart House. We'd gone there on the recommendation of our hotel, and while the food was adequate, the overall experience did not live up to what one would expect. For example, you usually don't find a salad bar in a restaurant with entrees in this price range, for good reason. The bread was tasteless and commercial, the silver was not replaced between courses, the signature dessert was of the quality one would get at a mid-level chain restaurant. However, the view over the water was lovely, and the service was attentive.
